Ten wishes for 2007

Enough of predictions, here’s what I wish happens in 2007 in eLearning instructional design. These are thoughts as they occur, so there are bound to be overlaps and duplications. And they are in no particular order of importance.

1. Program objectives and learning objectives drive instructional design.

2. Instructional design is accepted as the basis for eLearning design.

3. Glib talk and fanciful claims on learning effectiveness measurement comes down. (I would have said “comes to an end,” but not even the festive season can make me such a die-hard optimist.)

4. eLearning professionals take their profession (rather than just themselves) seriously.

5. Clients of eLearning start demanding learning quality as opposed to surface level quality like speedy development, no technical defects, and process adherence.

6. eLearning companies sell and client companies buy solutions that are relevant for the learner, and not just because they sound good to the management.

7. eLearning development is not seen as a factory production process.

8. eLearning does not become part of a process-based and scale-oriented BPO offering.

9. eLearning solutions do not merge with software solutions.

10. Clients get clear and honest on what they want to achieve with compliance training.
